Mayor's Pedestrian Advisory Council updates

The Mayor’s Pedestrian Advisory Council (MPAC), which is open to the public, is hosted by the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) and takes place quarterly at city hall.

The meetings are a great way to stay informed about CDOT projects and hear about initiatives to improve conditions for people walking around the city.

Mayor’s Bicycle Advisory Council updates

The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) chairs the Mayor’s Bicycle Advisory Council (MBAC), which meets quarterly at city hall, and is open to the public for anyone to attend.

The meetings are a great way to stay informed about CDOT projects and hear about initiatives and improvements to infrastructure around the city. 

How to influence infrastructure spending in your ward

Do you have ideas for improving walking or biking in your neighborhood?

If your ward hosts a participatory budgeting process, you might have an opportunity to put your idea up for a vote.

All you have to do is snap a photo of the area you would like to improve and contact your alderman to propose the changes you would like to see.

Ride hailing is increasing congestion

Recent reports out of San Francisco and New York City find that ride-hailing companies like Lyft and Uber are contributing to increased traffic congestion and could be hurting transit ridership.

The San Francisco study found that ride-hailing vehicles travel approximately 570,000 miles within city limits on a typical weekday.

Vision Zero Chicago Summit postponed

After announcing our first Vision Zero Chicago Summit last week, Active Transportation Alliance heard from several community leaders who were concerned the event wouldn’t be inclusive.

While our intention was always to have a strong community presence at the event and include speakers from communities of color, we didn't communicate that with the initial invitation, and didn't connect with key leaders prior to releasing the date and draft agenda.
